Admission Lottery

Lottery Information

East Mountain High School is a public charter school and enrolls new students through a lottery process, pursuant to the New Mexico Charter School Law.

Enrollment for the 2021-2022 school year is currently at capacity. Students will be placed on the waiting list for their respective grade. Please fill out the Waiting List form at the bottom of this page. Waiting Lists are school year specific, so if admission during the 2021-2022 wasn’t offered, families must fill out a new Lottery Enrollment Form for the 2022-2023 school year.

The Lottery Period for the 2022-2023 school year will be held from Tuesday, February 8, 2022, through Friday, March 11, 2022. Lottery Enrollment Forms must be completed online at the East Mountain High School website. Siblings of currently attending EMHS students receive preference in the admissions process and do not have to go through the actual drawing of names. However, siblings must still submit a Lottery Enrollment Form by the March 11 deadline. At EMHS, a sibling is defined as one who shares at least one biological parent or legal guardian and lives at least 50% of the time in the same household as a current EMHS student. A sibling forfeits the automatic enrollment preference if the March 11 deadline is missed, so the student will be placed at the bottom of the Waiting List established at the Lottery Drawing.

EMHS expects to enroll 100 freshmen for the 2022-2023 school year. If Lottery Enrollment Forms for incoming freshmen exceed 100 applications, a Lottery Drawing will be held. Incoming freshmen with Lottery numbers of 101 and on will be placed on a Waiting List and will be contacted if an opening becomes available.

All transfer students (rising sophomores, juniors and seniors) will be placed on the Waiting List established at the Lottery Drawing and will be contacted if an opening becomes available. At that time, transfer students should submit an unofficial transcript, including current grades and courses in progress, to Registrar Carol Wirth via email at

The Lottery Drawing will be held on Wednesday, March 16 at 5PM to establish class enrollments and waiting list order for the 2022-2023 school year. The format (virtual or in-person) has yet to be determined. Please continue to check back for more information. You need not be present at the Lottery Drawing to be admitted to EMHS. For any questions about the Lottery or enrollment, please contact Registrar Carol Wirth at

Principal Smith and staff will host a virtual Meet EMHS event on Tuesday, February 15 at 6PM to provide an introduction to our unique school and to answer any questions you may have. Attending the event is not required for enrollment but is an excellent opportunity to address any questions. The school may host an in-person event as well, depending on health regulations at the time. Check back here for more information soon.
