What activities does East Mountain High School offer?
Athletics
EMHS offers students the opportunity to compete at the AA level in Volleyball, Soccer, Cross Country, Basketball, Baseball, Softball, Golf, Track, Tennis, Bowling and Cheerleading. See Mr. Naylor (Room 201) for information on all sports.
J.A.M. (Japanese, Anime and Manga)
Ms. Nakai (Room 103) sponsors this club where members learn about Japanese culture and a little of the Japanese language, as well as watch videos that demonstrate both! Members must have a love of Japan, anime, or manga, or all of the above! Come join in the fun! The club meets Tuesdays and Thursdays during lunch.
MESA
Ms. Vazquez (Room 300) sponsors this club for students considering careers in Mathematics, Engineering, and Science. Students can participate in competitions and make presentations in exhibitions. Students can also earn scholarship money for college.
Model UN
Mr. Langan (Room 400) sponsors this club which simulates the procedures of the United Nations and assigns students to represent various countries.
National Honor Society
Mrs. Binder (Room 401) sponsors the Timberwolf NHS, an honorary organization based on scholarship, leadership and service. NHS is one of the newest and most prestigious organizations at EMHS. It is open to any 10th, 11th or 12th grader with a 3.5 or higher GPA, who has a strong involvement in service and leadership projects and who demonstrates good character.
Natural Helpers
Ms. Sundram sponsors this club where juniors and seniors work as a peer support and advocacy group. The group meets weekly to work with students to improve their experience at EMHS. The group for 2009 – 2010 is already selected, but names of interested students for next year's work will be accepted.
Newspaper
Mrs. Rorick (Room 403) sponsors the school newspaper. All staff members learn and practice skills on reporting, investigation, writing, layout, and photojournalism. Editors manage their section of the newspaper and lead their staffs as well as serve a vital role in the decision-making process of the newspaper. The club meets Mondays during advocacy and Fridays after school. Dedication and willingness to work throughout the week on assignments is crucial to the success of the publication.
Speech & Debate
Mr. T. Smith (Room 405) sponsors this competitive team that competes in drama, debate, acting, and persuasive speaking.
Student Government
Your Student Government is a leadership organization that strives to promote school unity and spirit, organize school events and provide a forum for students’ voices to be heard.
Youth & Government
Mr. Langan (Room 400) sponsors Y&G, which explores the legislative process by writing bills and convening in Santa Fe for a mock legislative session.
