East Mountain High School Senior Corey Dotson Named National Merit Finalist
East Mountain High School is proud to announce that Corey Dotson, Class of 2017, has been named a National Merit Finalist.
The National Merit Scholarship Corporation announced the names of approximately 16,000 semifinalists in the 62nd Annual National Merit Scholarship Program. Only 90 semifinalists were named from New Mexico. Significantly less were named finalists.
About 1.6 million juniors entered the 2017 Program by taking the 2015 PSAT. To become a finalist, the semifinalists must submit a detailed application on their academic record, extra-curricular activities, leadership abilities, and awards received.
Principal Monique Siedschlag noted, “We are incredibly proud of Corey and this accomplishment. Corey has been one of our outstanding campus leaders for several years now. He is extremely driven, and his hard work has paid off.”
Corey said, “Being selected as a National Merit Finalist is truly an honor because it reminds me of how much effort I’ve put in, as well as reminding me of the thousands of other students who have accomplished the same. It’s a very humbling accolade. After all the tests I’ve had to take throughout high school, it’s nice to finally be rewarded for one.”
