For the third consecutive year, East Mountain High School was the recipient of a generous donation from community member, Sam Martin. Mr. Martin is the administrator of the Twoie Foundation, a fund that honors the life and legacy of his brother.
With this $36,000 contribution, East Mountain High School created the College Success Fund. This fund created two scholarships for two outstanding seniors each year. The award is renewable for four years of college, resulting in $8,000 for each recipient.
The remainder of the fund will defray the costs of East Mountain High School’s Dual Credit program by purchasing college textbooks for our students. The Dual Credit law in New Mexico allows high school students to take free college courses from local universities but requires the high school to pay for the cost of the textbook. Each year, EMHS spends approximately $20,000 on college textbooks.
The students, faculty, and staff are incredibly appreciative of Sam Martin’s generous gift. Because of this new fund, EMHS can continue providing the best education in New Mexico and encourage all students to achieve in college and beyond.
This year’s scholarship recipients are Harrison Kuszmaul and Clare Ray. Both students demonstrated exceptional commitment to academics and extra-curricular activities. Harrison will attend Purdue University and Clare will attend Kalamazoo College.
