  • FAFSA Workshop to Be Offered at East Mtn. High School

    Seniors and families are invited to a FAFSA Completion Workshop at East Mountain High School in the Portable Building Computer Lab on Tuesday, February 21 at 6:30pm. The FAFSA is the free application for federal financial aid for attending college. Most colleges require students to complete the FAFSA before making students eligible for scholarships, loans or other forms of financial aid.

  • New Mexico Court of Appeals Hears Case at East Mountain High School

    January was a learning experience like no other for East Mountain High School students studying Government. Students got a first hand look at the finer points of the judicial system when the New Mexico Court of Appeals heard a real case and issued a binding decision in front of a live audience. The case was argued at Vista Grande Community Center beginning at 9:45am and took about two hours.

  • East Mountain High School Speech and Debate Team First at La Cueva Tournament

    At the La Cueva Cave Classic this weekend, the East Mountain High School Speech and Debate team took first place in the overall sweepstakes competition, winning out over Albuquerque Academy in second place and Los Alamos High School in third place. The team was led by first place finishes by Eric Eridon, James Clarke, Quinlan Cao, Marc Lucero, and Tena Bentley.

  • East Mtn. High School Holds Open Enrollment for 2012 – 2013 Lottery

    East Mountain High School, a free public charter school located in Sandia Park, New Mexico, soon will be accepting applications for new enrollment for the 2012-2013 school year. The EMHS Open Enrollment Period begins on Wednesday, February 1, 2012, and will begin accepting lottery applications for the 2012 – 2013 school year. The Open Enrollment Period will close on Monday, March 5, 2012, at 4pm.

  • East Mountain High School Receives $2,000 from PNM Foundation

    East Mountain High School teacher Olga Vazquez will receive a $2,000 grant from the PNM Foundation through their three-year old Energy Exploration grant program. Vazquez was one of only thirty-eight teachers state-wide to receive the grant, worth up to $2,000.

  • East Mountain High School Speech & Debate Team Takes Another First

    At the Rio Grande Tournament on Friday, December 2nd and Saturday, December 3rd, the East Mountain High School Speech and Debate Team took another first place finish. This first place followed winning performances at the Sandia Tournament and the Los Alamos Tournament. The team was also recognized with the Yule Tide Spirit Award.   • East Mtn. High School Receives $13,000 Grant of Educational Software from Backbone Communications

    East Mountain High School will receive $13,000 in educational software from Backbone Communications as a part of the Education for America grant. Software will include an annual subscription to the Simple K-12 Education project-based learning library (www.simplek12.com) and an annual subscription to the A+ Virtual Science Lab software (www.amered.com/).

  • Fitness Center Will Be Open On Some Holiday Dates

    For those of you who use the Vista Grande Fitness Center, I will be opening the fitness center during the holidays to give our friends from Bernalillo County some well-deserved time off as well as give us an opportunity to stay fit during the holidays.

    The fitness center will be open on the following Bernalillo County holidays:

    Friday, November 25: 9am – 11am
    Friday, December 23: 9am – 11am
    Monday, December 26: 9am – 11am

  • East Mountain High School Youth Plan Community Town Hall on Education and the Environment

    The entire community is invited to attend this event, which is being organized and implemented by youth. The town hall meeting will be held Tuesday, December 6 from 10:00am to 12:00pm at Vista Grande Community Center in the Fisher and Smith Memorial Gym (15 La Madera Road).

  • East Mtn. High School Takes First Place at Los Alamos Speech and Debate Tournament

    On Friday and Saturday, the East Mountain High School Speech and Debate Team traveled to Los Alamos to compete in the annual Los Alamos Speech and Debate Tournament. East Mountain’s Speech and Debate team came home with its second first-place overall sweepstakes finish this year, finishing in front of La Cueva High School and Albuquerque Academy.     Yesterday at their monthly meeting, the Bernalillo County Board Commissioners recognized East Mountain High School senior Caroline Kaufman with a certificate of recognition for her outstanding athletic, academic and extracurricular accomplishments. Commissioner Wayne Johnson, District 5, presented Caroline with the award.

    On Tuesday, October 3rd, East Mountain High School honored 206 returning sophomores, juniors and seniors for their academic achievement during the 2010 – 2011 school year in an Honors Ceremony held at the Fisher and Smith Gymnasium at 7:00pm. This number comprises over 76% of the schools’ eligible student body.

  • East Mtn. High School Teacher Olga Vazquez Visits Czech Republic on Robotics Exchange

    East Mountain High School Science Teacher Olga Vazquez returned Thursday from a four-day trip to the Czech Republic to demonstrate how to teach students robotics. The trip was sponsored by the government of the Czech Republic as part of an effort to improve their students’ high tech skills.
