EMHS converts six Wednesdays from early release to full days to make up for recent snow days.

Posted February 23, 2010

Dear Members of the East Mountain High School community:

Students have missed a number of school days due to the snow we have received this winter. Even though we schedule extra academic time into our calendar, we do not have enough this term and believe our students need more academic time this term. As a result, we have looked at our calendar to determine the best way to provide more time in a way that makes sense for our schedule.

The most logical way we could determine was to turn six professional development Wednesdays into full school days. The calendar for Wednesday for the rest of the year follows:

  • March 3rd – Full Day of School
  • March 10th – Full Day of School
  • March 17th – NO SCHOOL (Spring Break)
  • March 24th – Professional Development (1:30pm Dismissal)
  • March 31st – Full Day of School
  • April 7th – Full Day of School (NMSBA Testing for juniors and Inquiry Project Presentations for sophomores in the afternoon)
  • April 14th – Full Day of School (NMSBA Testing for juniors and Inquiry Project Presentations for freshmen in the afternoon)
  • April 21st – Professional Development (1:30pm Dismissal)
  • April 28th – Full Day of School
  • May 5th – Professional Development (1:30pm Dismissal)
  • May 12th – Full Day of School

This calendar will be on the school website at www.eastmountainhigh.net for the rest of the school year. The month of April will have some Tuesday and Wednesday schedules that include competency testing for juniors, early release for seniors, and inquiry project presentations for freshmen and sophomores. We will provide more information as the time becomes near.

This schedule does mean that the school year will still end on the same day, and Discovery Projects will not be delayed. We hope this letter provides you with enough time to adjust. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Douglas Wine
Principal
East Mountain High School
