The New Mexico Public Education Department has tasked the Executive Director of every charter school in the state to create an equity council. The EMHS Executive Director’s Equity Council will be tasked with evaluating how our school engages students in a culturally and linguistically responsive educational system that meets their social, emotional, and academic needs.
The council will consist of EMHS staff, Governing Council members, parents, students, and community members. Specifically, the council is seeking members to serve who represent groups identified in the recent Yazzie/Martinez lawsuit: economically disadvantaged, English learners, Native American students, and students with disabilities.
If any parent or community member who represents one of these demographics is interested in serving on our Equity Council, please send Trey Smith an email at firstname.lastname@example.org by Friday, December 6. In your email, indicate your background and why you are interested in serving. The council has five spots for parent/community members to serve a three-year term. We will quickly identify and announce the members of the council so that this important work can begin. Thank you for helping us create a safe and inclusive space for all of our students.
