The New Mexico Public Education Department requires each student to complete a Next Step Plan each year so that students understand how their course selections, grades, standardized test scores, career interests and extracurricular activities will affect their aspirations for high education or career training after high school. At East Mountain High School, the Next Step Plan is completed through each students’ advocacy. It must be signed by the student, teacher and advocate and put on file in the Guidance Office before the end of the school year.

The Naviance college planning software allows each student to complete his or her Next Step Plan online. Follow the directions below to access the Next Step Plan through Naviance.

If you are a new student who has not yet set up a Naviance account:

  1. Get your personal registration code from the Registrar in the Guidance Office.
  2. Go to http://connection.naviance.com/eastmtn
  3. Click on the “I need to register” link.
  4. Enter the registration code for you received.
  5. Click “Register.”
  6. Fill in the required information and click the “Complete Registration” button.
  7. Make sure you write down your password and put it in a safe location.
  8. Click on the “About Me” tab.
  9. Click on the appropriate survey:
    Ex: 11th Grade Next Step Plan 2012 – 2013

If you are a returning student who set up a Naviance account last year:

  1. Login using your email address and password.
  2. Click on the “About Me” tab.
  3. Click on the appropriate survey:
    Ex: 11th Grade Next Step Plan 2012 – 2013

When completing your survey, please remember to periodically hit the submit button located at the bottom of the screen to keep your work from being lost. When you have completed the plan, print it out and get it signed. Turn it in to Ms. Millea in the Student Guidance Center.
