Project PeacePal
Project PeacePal is an international peace through education pen pal and service learning organization. We connect U.S. youth in middle and high schools with peers in developing countries around the world.
The first part of our program is a classroom based letter writing program, consisting of learning about PeacePal countries and culture, and writing three hand written letters each school year to one's PeacePal pen pal.
The second part of our program is the service learning component: Stamp Out Malaria! Many of our PeacePals are located in Africa where malaria is still the number one cause of death for children. Our youth leaders are organizing fundraising campaigns to buy mosquito or bed nets for our PeacePals in Africa.
Youth groups can raise funds at school and at events by educating community members about malaria and the effectiveness of bed nets. 100% of funds raised are used to purchase bednets. Funds can be either sales of our beautiful hand made friendship bracelets or direct donations. Our friendship bracelets are made for PeacePal at a fair trade collective in Peru, and are sold for $5 each, the cost of a bednet. Direct donations can be made with cash or secure online donations at our Against Malaria Foundation webpage: www.againstmalaria.com/projectpeacepal.
Our Stamp Out Malaria! service project has a service learning curriculum with activities, a student group support packet of written instructions and materials, and PeacePal staff support. For more information, please visit www.peacepal.org.
