Dear EMHS Seniors and Parents/Guardians,

Congratulations to the Class of 2020! This letter contains very important information regarding graduation and several events leading up to the special occasion. Please mark your calendars for the Class of 2020 Graduation Ceremony on Sunday, May 10th from 3:00PM – 5:00PM at the Kiva Auditorium in the Albuquerque Convention Center.

To make the graduation ceremony more personable and give an opportunity for students to share their best, we are asking parents/guardians and seniors to work together to complete several items, including: Baby & Senior Pictures, Individual Quote, Graduation Program Template, Senior Statement/Blurb”. As your student walks across the stage at the graduation ceremony, the senior statement/“blurb” will be read aloud and his/her baby picture, senior picture, and favorite quote will appear on a large screen. As you work on these items with your senior, please understand the EMHS Administration has the final approval for all pictures, blurbs, quotes and items highlighted in the program.

Several of the following items are meant to be worked on simultaneously, but are listed below in order of “due date” for your information.

CAP & GOWNS, ANNOUNCEMENTS and OTHER SENIOR GOODIES: EMHS contracts with Campus Specialties for the cap & gown and announcements. Seniors received an order form during the College & Career Workshop on Wednesday, September 18th. Additional order forms are available in Mrs. Millea’s office. Students must purchase a cap & gown; all other items are optional. Please contact Mrs. Millea if you need financial assistance purchasing a cap & gown. Our representative will return on Thursday, September 26th during Advocacy to take orders. Families must order directly at Campus Specialties if students miss the 9/26 visit. Campus Specialties is located at 1529 Eubank NE, Suite B in Albuquerque. Their phone number is 275-9357.

BABY & SENIOR PICTURES: Please help your senior by selecting a baby picture. If your student would like to use the senior picture that he/she chose for the yearbook, you do NOT need to submit a senior picture. However, if you would like to use a different senior picture, you must give the new picture to Mrs. McKnight in the Student Guidance Center. Pictures may be from any photographer for the graduation slideshow. It would be greatly appreciated if the baby and senior pictures are digital, but a hard copy is fine. We will scan the picture and return it to your student. Digital pictures should be e-mailed to Mrs. McKnight at dmcknight@eastmountainhigh.net. We are asking for pictures far in advance as it will take us some time to coordinate the efforts to make this a memorable and special event for your senior and family. In addition, the yearbook is planning a senior baby picture section, so we are coordinating our efforts with baby picture collection. Please submit pictures to Mrs. McKnight no later than Friday, November 22nd.

QUOTE: The individual quote should represent the senior and be from a “famous person” and not something a friend or family member says. The quote may also be an assignment in all Senior Seminar classes. Students must enter the final draft of their quote with the author in Naviance by Friday, January 31st.

PROGRAM TEMPLATE: Mrs. Millea shared a copy of the Graduation Program template Google Doc with students last spring and is asking students to enter their information directly into the document. She will then create the final program based on the information students provided. Mrs. Millea will enter information for each student regarding the Timberwolf Diploma of Excellence and Dean’s List. Students and parents should work together to fill out the Accomplishments/Awards, Activities, Athletics, Scholarships and Post-secondary Plans sections. Mrs. Millea emailed students a copy of the Class of 2019 program last spring so you can get ideas and see how things are formatted. Please ask your senior to share these documents with you. The deadline for the Program information is Wednesday, April 1st.The Scholarships and Post-Secondary Plans sections may be updated in late April/early May 2020 after students receive scholarship offers and make their final post-secondary plans by emailing Mrs. Millea.

SENIOR STATEMENT aka “BLURB”: The “blurb” is the statement read aloud as your senior walks across the stage to receive his/her diploma at the graduation ceremony. The statement should be no more than four (4) sentences long and typically include a special thanks or post-secondary plans or goals. Copies of blurbs from years past are available in the Student Guidance Center if a student needs ideas. Students must enter the final draft of their blurb in Naviance by Wednesday, April 15th. We will start to work on this in October, but it’s a good idea to start thinking about it now.

COMMUNITY SERVICE: Each year, students are expected to complete 20 hours of community service, for a total of at least 80 hours by the end of a student’s senior year. This is a graduation requirement in our charter. Therefore, any student who does not have his/her required community service hours recorded will NOT be allowed to participate in the graduation ceremony. Please contact Ms. Bibo at tbibo@eastmountainhigh.net as soon as possible to check on recorded hours or obtain community service ideas. All community service hours must be entered in the student’s x2VOL account accessible through Naviance by Thursday, April 30th.

SENIOR FINAL EXAMS and AP Testing: Senior Final Exams will be held on Thursday, April 30th. The AP US Government Exam is on Monday, May 4th, the AP Calculus AB Exam is on Tuesday, May 5th, and the AP Psychology Exam is on Tuesday, May 12th, so several seniors will need to return to EMHS to take the AP Exam(s). Remember, there is an extra $40 charge for AP exams ordered and not taken.

SENIOR EXHIBITION PRESENTATIONS: Senior Exhibition Presentations will be held on Friday, May 1st. Seniors will sign up for a presentation time through their Senior Seminar class. More information regarding presentation times will be available in the spring from Mrs. Wood. This is the last day of school for seniors!

SENIOR FUN WEEK: As a senior tradition, The PACK sponsors a Senior Fun Week. It will be held from May 1st to May 8th. In past years, seniors have gone bowling, to a movie, to an Isotopes game and on a hike. The lock-in is scheduled for Friday, May 1st and will be the first ever Camp Out on the EMHS Lawn!

GRADUATION REHEARSAL, BBQ & FUN DAY: Graduation Rehearsal is required for all seniors intending on participating in the ceremony. The rehearsal will be held on Wednesday, May 6th at 10:00AM in the Fisher & Smith Memorial Gymnasium. A senior picture will also be taken by Full Contact Sports Photography. The PACK will sponsor a BBQ lunch and Fun Day activities for seniors. Seniors will also receive a senior t-shirt. Please be sure you’ve paid your $25 senior fee.

SENIOR AWARDS & COLLEGE SIGNING NIGHT: The Senior Awards & College Signing Night will be held on Thursday, May 7th at 6:00PM in the Fisher & Smith Memorial Gymnasium. Departments will award the 2020 Departmental Awards for Outstanding Achievement and students will receive their Dean’s List honors from senior year. Seniors will also announce their post-secondary plans and sign the college posters to be displayed in the Student Guidance Center.

CLASS OF 2020 GRADUATION CEREMONY: The EMHS Class of 2020 Graduation Ceremony will be held on Sunday, May 10th from 3:00PM – 5:00PM at the Kiva Auditorium in the Albuquerque Convention Center. There is no limit to the number of guests a senior may invite. Parking is available at the Civic Plaza Garage on Marquette & 3rd St. at $6 per vehicle. Entrance to the Convention Center is on 3rd St.
