Gifted students at EMHS are expected to develop the skills and self-awareness necessary to pursue self-directed learning in areas of interest. This is a critical component of the Individualized Education Plan. Students have the ability to create an independent study to explore an aptitude, interest, or idea in depth, and this is excellent preparation for the mentorship experience that offered to upperclassmen.
These resources can be utilized to enhance, enrich, or supplement curriculum of courses or to create the learning plan for an independent study. Many of the online courses include videos of lectures, copies of the lecture notes, and audio files, offering the opportunity to experience what it might be like to sit in a classroom at Yale University listening to a world-renowned expert teaching your class.
